Do construction jobs and jobs like a plumber, carpenter, electrician require a lot of physical strength?

Just something I was wondering before I apply for these jobs.

I'm 6'1" and 245 lbs, overweight, but have muscle underneath all of my fat.

Saw some reviews for these types of jobs on CareerCritique.com and was wondering if you guys could comment on this:

As an electrician, you need enough strength to carry your tools, lift the conduit, wire and install it. Yes it takes some strength, and a great deal of skill. You use your brain as much as your hands.

You will have to carry a tool-box among other things.Lift and carry lumber and equipment/supplies around. Most tools can be placed in a tool-belt. The majority of people claim to have muscles under their fat. Most jobs will be physically demanding.

Yes they do. In addition to the materials you have to handle, often we work in buildings that have no elevators, or even stairs in some cases. You spend a lot of time going up and down ladders, trekking through mud (and snow too, depending on where you live). It’s not easy work by any means, but it’s a good, honest living, and the training is paid for (at least it is with Union contractors). Benefits are good as well, although you would be subject to downturns in the economy, like now. We have over 20% of our members off right now. You will lose a bit of weight within the first few months. I think I lost 20 lbs., and I didn’t have a lot to lose back then. It’s definitely worth looking into. Good luck.

Nowadays we’ve got ‘power assist’ for most of the required
‘grunt jobs’ though you will need some muscle some times..
Your weight will be more of a problem.
There;s a lot of ‘up the ladder, down the ladder, move the ladder,
    up the &^%*^%ing ladder….’ involved.
